Exploring Our Purpose
Since retiring from the military, I have dedicated myself to understanding the root causes of the financial challenges facing many young service members and their families. That research has led me to a simple conclusion: we can do more than provide assistance after military service—we can better prepare service members before they transition to civilian life.
As a veteran, I have long believed that organizations dedicated to helping veterans would be even more effective if they also invested in preparing active-duty service members to become successful, self-reliant veterans. My vision is to build a veteran-centered organization that challenges, motivates, and empowers today's service members to strengthen their financial foundation while they are still in uniform.
Recent government shutdowns have once again highlighted an important concern. When the possibility of missing part of a single paycheck creates immediate financial hardship for military families, it underscores the importance of financial preparedness. While military compensation and other factors certainly play a role, financial education, planning, and disciplined money management are equally essential to long-term financial security.
The military teaches its members to adapt and overcome. Success in uniform is built on training, preparation, and experience. The same principles should apply to personal finances. Financial readiness should be viewed as an essential component of overall readiness because financial stability strengthens families, reduces stress, and better prepares service members for both military service and civilian life.
Those who volunteer to defend America's free-market economy should also have every opportunity to understand how to succeed within it. Veterans, having experienced both military service and the transition to civilian life, are uniquely qualified to mentor the next generation and help them avoid many of the financial mistakes and challenges that accompany that transition.
My American Home exists to encourage that effort. Its mission is to challenge conventional thinking, promote personal responsibility, and provide practical ideas that help service members and their families build lasting financial independence. By investing in today's service members, we can help create tomorrow's confident, capable, and self-reliant veterans.
I welcome the opportunity to work alongside veterans, financial professionals, and others who share this vision and believe that preparing service members for financial success is one of the most meaningful ways we can strengthen both our military and our nation.
